Union County Residents With Disabilities And Special Needs Showcase Their Creativity At Paint by the Pond, Aug. 9th

The Union County Board of County Commissioners and the Town of Westfield invite residents with disabilities and special needs, along with their friends and families, to participate in “Paint by the Pond,” on Saturday, August 9th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mindowaskin Park, located at 385 East Broad Street in Westfield.

“The Commissioner Board is excited to once again partner with the Town of Westfield in bringing back this enriching summer event for our residents with disabilities and special needs,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon. “Join us for a relaxing day of painting in the sunshine and enjoying the beautiful scenery with friends and loved ones. I hope to see you all there.”

“Paint by the Pond” is organized by the Union County Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs (OPDSN) and led by talented artist and Elizabeth resident, Dario Scholis. This free event invites residents with disabilities and special needs of all ages to create a unique art project they can take home and share with family and friends.

“Art can be such a powerful outlet, granting us a voice and even boosting one’s confidence. Through our Office of Disabilities and Special Needs, we remain committed to ensuring that our community with special needs and disabilities continues to have opportunities that allow them to be creative, to be heard, and more importantly, to be celebrated,” said Union County Commissioner Sergio Granados, Liaison to the Human Services Advisory Council.

Art supplies, including canvas and paint, will be provided for this event. While attendance is free, pre-registration is required. To register, please visit ucnj.org/opdsn-reg.

The event is one of several initiatives led by the Union County Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs, which is under the Division of Individual and Family Support Services of the Union County Department of Human Services. The Union County Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs offers year-round programming designed to empower, support, and engage individuals and families through accessible recreation, education, and advocacy.
