Union County Holds Two Scrap Metal Recycling Drop-off Events for Residents This October

The Union County Board of County Commissioners invites all residents to participate in the upcoming free scrap metal recycling drop-off events on Thursday, October 3rd, and Saturday, October 19th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The scrap metal disposal events will take place at two collection sites in Union County and are held twice a month from April to November.

“Our scrap metal recycling events are conveniently held to make it easy for residents to contribute to waste reduction, energy conservation, and giving new life to unwanted or unused items,” said Union County Chairwoman Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “This October, we are asking residents to participate in our recycling efforts by dropping off any scrap metal at the nearest designated location.”

Union County scrap metal recycling drop-off will be accepted on October 3rd and October 19th between 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at two drop-off centers:

  • Cranford: Emergency Services Building, 151 Kenilworth Boulevard, Kenilworth
  • Rahway: Rahway River Park (follow Park Drive, Rahway off St. Georges Avenue to service yard across from swimming pool)

Residents from any Union County municipality can bring scrap metal to either of these sites. Final scrap metal recycling events for the 2024 season will be held in November, on Thursday, November 7th, and Saturday, November 16th. To receive schedule alerts, and to stay up to date with Union County and local recycling programs, residents are invited to download the free Recycle Coach mobile app. 

Residents must remain in their vehicle at all times. Materials should be placed in trunk, cargo area, or truck bed and be easily accessible to staff to remove from vehicle.

Acceptable items for recycling include unwanted pots and pans, air conditioners, aluminum scrap, aluminum siding, bicycles, brass, copper, dishwashers, electric fans, fencing (chair/wire), freezers (doors must be off, by law), refrigerators (door must be off by law) stoves, tire rims, toasters, gutters, irons, lawn furniture, metal cabinets, metal sheds, microwaves, railings, washers and dryers, window frames (no glass), wire hangers and drained lawnmowers.

Fiesta De Otoño Para Personas Con Discapacidades Y Necesidades Especiales El 6 De Octubre

La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union se complace en anunciar un Festival de Otoño inclusivo para personas con Discapacidades y Necesidades Especiales el domingo 6 de octubre, de 1:00 p. m. a 3:00 p. m. en el Centro Deportivo Warinanco, ubicado en 1 Park Drive en Roselle.

“Estamos emocionados de ser anfitriones del Festival de Otoño inclusivo para nuestra comunidad”, dijo la Presidenta de la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union, Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “Este evento es siempre una oportunidad maravillosa para que las personas con Discapacidades y Necesidades Especiales se conecten y se diviertan. Estamos orgullosos de ofrecer un espacio donde todos puedan sentirse bienvenidos y valorados”.

El Festival de Otoño de este año contará con una variedad de actividades interesantes, que incluyen instrucción de baile en línea, juegos, manualidades y una cabina para tomar fotos. Los asistentes también pueden disfrutar de refrigerios ligeros mientras participan en estas actividades inclusivas. Fall Fest for Persons With Disabilities and Special Needs on October 6th

The Union County Board of County Commissioners is excited to announce an inclusive Fall Fest for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs on Sunday, October 6th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Warinanco Sport Center, located at 1 Park Drive in Roselle.

“We are excited to host the inclusive Fall Fest for our community,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “This event is always a wonderful opportunity for individuals with disabilities and special needs to connect and have fun. We are proud to offer a space where everyone can feel welcome and valued.”

This year’s Fall Fest will feature a variety of engaging activities, including line dancing instruction, games, arts and crafts, and a photo booth. Attendees can also enjoy light refreshments while participating in these inclusive activities. Admission to the Fall Fest is free, but registration is required online at ucnj.org/opdsn-reg.

This event is hosted by the Union County Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs, under the Division of Individual and Family Support Services of the Union County Department of Human Services. Public Hearing – Wheatena Park

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the COUNTY OF UNION is proposing a change in use for a portion of parkland owned by the County of Union within the City of Rahway, New Jersey.

The proposed change is to convert 0.41 acres of open space/parkland to a dog park as requested by the City of Rahway, located at Block 227, Lot 6 and Block 224, Lot 34 of which is known as Wheatena Park, 1850 Elizabeth Ave, Rahway, NJ 07065. The City of Rahway is proposing to install fencing around the perimeter of the dog park along with other dog park amenities.

Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 7:36-25.6(a)1, a hearing to obtain public comment on this proposed change of purpose or use will be held at Rahway City Hall, 1 City Hall Plaza, Rahway, NJ 07065, on November 6, 2024 at 6:00pm.

All information submitted by the County of Union regarding the proposed change in use is available for public inspection with the Union County Department of Parks and Recreation, 10 Elizabethtown Plaza, Elizabeth, NJ 07207. La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union invita cordialmente a todos los veteranos militares, personal en servicio activo y proveedores de servicios para veteranos a asistir a un encuentro gratuito de networking el miércoles 16 de octubre de 6:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m. en The Tavern, ubicado dentro del campo de golf Galloping Hill, 3 Golf Drive en Kenilworth.

“We are excited to host our Networking Mixer for all military personnel living in Union County,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “One of the several ways we honor the sacrifices they have made is by creating programs and opportunities for them to foster connections, pursue education goals, find employment, and, most importantly, feel valued and supported by the community they so bravely served.”

El Condado De Union Organizará Una Feria De Empleo en El Centro De Artes Escénicas De Plainfield

La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union, en colaboración con el Centro de Empleo Americano, se complace en anunciar que se llevará a cabo una Feria de Empleo el sábado 28 de septiembre de 2024 en el Centro de Artes Escénicas de Plainfield, ubicado en  el 724 Park Avenue en Plainfield.

“Estamos comprometidos a ayudar a los residentes a lograr sus objetivos profesionales brindándoles acceso a oportunidades valiosas como esta feria de empleo”, dijo la Presidenta de la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union, Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “Estamos orgullosos de apoyar el crecimiento de nuestra comunidad conectando a los residentes con los empleadores. Union County to Host Job Fair at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center

The Union County Board of County Commissioners, in collaboration with the American Job Center, is pleased to announce that a Job Fair will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, located at 724 Park Avenue in Plainfield.

“We are committed to helping residents achieve their career goals by providing access to valuable opportunities like this job fair,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “We are proud to support our community’s growth by connecting residents with employers. If you or someone you know is seeking employment or exploring new career opportunities, we encourage you to attend.”

This free event is open to all Union County residents and will feature employers from various industries offering full-time, part-time, entry-level positions, and opportunities for career growth.

Participating employers include the Council for Airport Opportunity (CAO), Financial Resources Credit Union, InstaCare Home, FedEx, NYC Department of Corrections, The New Jersey Maritime Pilot and Docking Pilot Commission, U.S. Marshal, Valley Bank, Solar Pros, Gracious Home Care, ABM, Home Instead, Jefferson Park Ministries, Union County Savings Bank, Mary Kay.

Attendees will also have access to career resources such as resume reviews and information on employment assistance programs through the American Job Center.

Explore Recursos Valiosos Para Personas Mayores en El Kiosco De Servicios Para Adultos Mayores Del Condado De Union

La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union alienta a las personas mayores y a sus cuidadores a visitar su Kiosco de Servicios para el Envejecimiento (ASK) local este octubre. Estos servicios brindan una oportunidad para que los asistentes se reúnan con profesionales experimentados que pueden ofrecer orientación experta sobre programas y recursos para personas mayores y ayudar a completar formularios. El personal bilingüe estará disponible en todas las fechas de octubre para brindar apoyo en español.

“Nuestros residentes mayores son la columna vertebral de nuestras familias y la base de este país; no merecen nada menos que nuestro apoyo constante. Esta iniciativa es importante para mí, ya que simboliza nuestra dedicación para garantizar la salud y la felicidad de nuestra comunidad de personas mayores a medida que atraviesan las últimas etapas de la vida”, dijo la Presidenta de la Junta de  Comisionados del Condado de Union, Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded. “Animo a las personas mayores, los cuidadores y los miembros de la familia a visitar nuestro Kiosco de Servicios para el Envejecimiento este octubre y aprender sobre los recursos que están disponibles y que podrían tener un impacto significativo en su vida o la de su ser querido”.

El Kiosco de Servicios para el Envejecimiento es operado explícitamente por la División sobre el Envejecimiento, una rama del Departamento de Servicios Humanos del Condado de Union. Ofrece a los adultos mayores de 60 años, junto con sus cuidadores, una vía amigable y conveniente para descubrir programas y servicios valiosos y hablar individualmente con un profesional de la División sobre el Envejecimiento.

El personal de las ubicaciones de ASK puede ayudar a los adultos mayores y a los cuidadores a conectarse con varios servicios, que incluyen comidas a domicilio, atención de relevo, atención domiciliaria, atención diurna para adultos y servicios de apoyo para cuidadores.
