Public Notice regarding the Installation Ceremony & Reorganization Meeting of the 2022 Union County Board of County Commissioners

PUBLIC NOTICE

A revision to the previously published Public Notice of the Installation Ceremony & Reorganization Meeting of the 2022 Union County Board of County Commissioners is necessary.

Under the terms of the “Open Public Meetings Act” P.L.., 1975, C. 231, the Reorganization Meeting of the 2022 Union County Board of County Commissioners will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., in the County Administration Building, 6th Floor, Commissioner Meeting Room located at 10 Elizabethtown Plaza, Elizabeth, New Jersey 07207.

While the Reorganizational Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners is open to the public, the previously noticed Installation Ceremony will no longer be open to the public, but rather conducted privately and take place prior to the public Reorganizational Meeting.  As part of the County’s continued precautions against the coronavirus, masks will be required to be worn by all participants at the Reorganizational Meeting.

El Condado de Union Añade otro Día Para las Pruebas del COVID-19

Cualquier residente del Condado de Union pueden hacer una cita gratis en los sitios operados por el Condado de Union.

Condado de Union, – Debido a la demanda para las pruebas del COVID-19, la programación durante días festivos el Condado de Union ha incluído un día adicional el miércoles 29 de diciembre.

“Continuamos pidiendole a los residentes del Condado de Union que completen sus vacunas lo antes posible, mientras continuamos proporcionando pruebas y vacunas gratis,” dijo el Presidente de la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union Alexander Mirabella.

Los residentes del Condado de Union pueden visitor la página ucnj.org para ver las últimas programaciones y hacer sus citas en culaquiera de las clínicas que son operadas por el Condado de Union.

Los residentes que necesiten asistencia para hacer una cita pueden llamar al Centro de Llamadas del Condado de Union al  908-613-7829, de lunes a viernes entre las 8:30 a.m. y las 4:30 p.m. except los días festivos.

El Condado de Union opera dos centros de pruebas del COVID-19, en  Kean University los lunes y jueves , y los miércoles en  Gerald B. Green Plaza en Plainfield.

Además debido  a la demanda que existe Kean University estará abierto el miércoles, 29 de diciembre.

El Condado de Union, Está Más Fuerte Que Nunca

Hace casi dos años hoy, estaba trabajando en mi discurso de reorganización como el próximo Presidente de la Junta de Comisionados. Fue durante el mes de diciembre del 2019, y lo primero que me vino a la mente fue la fortaleza de la comunidad del Condado de Union.

Habíamos pasado por un tramo difícil que comenzó con la crisis económica del 2008 que incluyó los Huracanes Irene y Sandy, una gran tormenta de hielo e incluso un terremoto.

“Y todavía, con todo este caos, nos mantuvimos juntos y nos levantamos. Hoy nuestra familia del Condado de Union está prosperando y creciendo,” Eso fue lo que escribe.

Ahora el significado de esas palabras suenas más claras que antes.

Yo pronuncié ese discurso el 5 de enero del 2020. En menos de tres meses, el Gobernador Phil Murphy emitió una orden de emergencia en respuesta a la pandemia del  COVID-19 de cerrar  todos los servicios excepto los más esenciales.

Y el Condado de Union proporcionó esos servicios esenciales.

El personal del Condado de Union rápida y tranquilamente  cambió a modo de prevención del virus e implementó operaciones remotas y sin contacto siempre que fue posible. Desde los primeros días del bloqueo de todo el estado continuamos brindando los servicios básicos al público que no pueden dejar de incluir seguridad pública y asistencia a los necesitados.

Unos cuantos días después de que la orden del bloqueo estatal fue emitida, tuvimos el primer centro de pruebas de COVID-19 masivo de este tipo funcionando en nuestro Condado.

El Centro de Pruebas del Condado de Union comenzó sus operaciones en Kean University el lunes, 23 de marzo, 2020. Ese día se proporcionarón 200 pruebas.

Hasta el momento, hemos administrado casi 174,000 pruebas a los residentes del Condado de Union, a la vez que al personal medico y de salud ya los rescatistas de New Jersey. medical personnel

En mayo, 2020 comenzamos a distribuir suministros de alimentos en masa, para ayudar a aliviar la angustia financiara causada por la pandemia.. Todaví seguimos con ese programa. Hasta la fecha hemos distribuido suficientes alimentos para proporcionar más de 10 millones de comidas a los hogares necesitados.

A través de todo el verana del 2020 trabajamos para distribuir fondos federales de la ley CARES incluyendo subsidies para restaurantes, pequeñas empresas, escuelas, bibliotecas y familias  con necesidades especiales.

Mi segundo año consecutivo como Presidente de la Junta comenzó el 3 de enero, 2021 y el Condado de Union estaba a la vanguardia de la nación por su masiva e histórica esfuerzo de vacunación.

El Condado de Union Centro de Vacunas en Kean University administró sus primeras dosis de vacunas gratis el 7 de enero, 2021. Desde entonces temenos un promedio de más de 10,000 dosis por mes, con un total de 127,000 hasta el momento.

Nuestra Sociedad con Kean también creció para crear el establecimiento del primer y único laboratorio acádemico de pruebas de COVID-19 del Condado situado en the Kean University, en Union.

En seguridad pública este año marcó el comienzo de la construcción de un nuevo centro de despacho de emergencia en Westfield, para continuar expandiendo y proporcionar más servicios  a municipios adicionales, hospitales y otras entidades.

Nos unimos con la fiscalía en un programa de recompra de armas, y esto obtuvo más de 500 armas de fuego que se retiraran de nuestra comunidad.

En el área de servicios humanos, lanzamos el servicio móvil “Nuevo Comienzo/Fresh Start” que brinda servicio de lavandería, duchas y servicios sanitarios a residentes  sin hogar.

Celebramos el regreso de Cuatro Siglos en un Fin de Semana, la serie de Teatros en el Union County Performing Arts Center, y resumimos los programas de subsidies para los programas de recreación de niños y preservación histórica.

Mientras esperamos nuevos en el próximo año, sabemos que el Condado de Union regresará más fuerte que antes.

Union County Adds another Date for Free COVID-19 Testing

covid19Any Union County resident can make an appointment at any testing clinic run by Union County, free of charge.

Union County, NJ – Due to the increased demand for COVID-19 tests, the holiday schedule for Union County’s free COVID-19 testing program will include an additional testing day, on December 29.

“We continue to encourage everyone in the Union County community to get fully vaccinated at the earliest opportunity, and we continue to provide free tests as well as free vaccines,” said Union County Commissioner Board Chairman Alexander Mirabella.

Union County residents can visit ucnj.org to view the latest schedules and make an appointment online at any free testing site or vaccination clinic operated by Union County.

Residents needing additional assistance to make an appointment can contact the Union County COVID-19 Call Center at 908-613-7829, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays.

Union County operates two free COVID-19 test sites, at Kean University on Mondays and Thursdays, and at Gerald B. Green Plaza in Plainfield on Wednesdays.

In addition to testing dates previously scheduled during the holidays, the Kean University site will also be open on Wednesday, December 29.

Union County also currently operates three free vaccination sites. Appointments are required at each site:

James era conocido por su enfoque sensible, compasivo y altamente professional de sus deberes. El era una fuente de orientación estable y confiable para los residentes del Condado de Union que se enfrentaban a un momento emocional en sus vidas, y compartía generosamente su conocimiento de la ley con el público mediante la organización de eventos educativos para profesionales, voluntaries, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, grupos civicos y el público en general.”

La Escribana del Condado de Union le advierte a los Residentes los Precios de los Pasaportes

La Escribana del Condado de Union Joanne Rajoppi le advierte a los residentes que estánen proceso de hacer un nuevo pasaporte o renovarlo que el Departamento de Estado ha subido las tarifas de los pasaportes $20.00 efectivo el lunes, 27 de diciembre, 2021.

El lunes la tarifa de los pasaportes de adultos  ( de 16 años en adelante ) será $130.00 en vez de $110.00.

El de los niños menores de 15 años será $100.00 en vez de $80.00.

“Mi oficina está autorizada a asistir a los residentes en tramintar las solicitudes de los pasaportes con el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos, por lo tanto les estamos informando al público los cambios que la agencia ha hecho.,” dijo la Sra. Rajoppi.

Statement on the Passing of Union County Surrogate James S. LaCorte

Union County Commissioner Board Chairman Alexander Mirabella issued the following statement on the passing of Union County Surrogate James S. LaCorte:

“It is with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Union County Surrogate James LaCorte, who provided assistance and comfort to thousands of Union County residents in their time of bereavement over his years of service as County Surrogate. James was known for his sensitive, compassionate, and highly professional approach to his duties. He was a steady, reliable source of guidance for Union County residents coping with an emotional point in their lives, and he unstintingly shared his knowledge of the law with the public by arranging educational events for professionals, volunteers, non-profit organizations, civic groups, and the general public.

“His services to families, including many adoptive families and others, helped to strengthen our Union County community during the more than 20 years he served as Surrogate, and his influence will continue for generations to come. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”

Union County Clerk Advises Residents on Passport Fees

three passports stacked on top of each otherUnion County, NJ – Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi advises residents seeking passport services that the U.S. Department of State has raised the fees for passport books by $20.00 effective Monday, December 27.

On Monday, the fee for an adult passport book, for ages 16 and up, will be raised from $110.00 to $130.00.

The fee for a child passport book, for ages 15 and younger, will be raised from $80.00 to $100.00.

“My office is authorized to assist residents in transmitting their passport applications to the U.S. Department of State, so we make every effort to help inform the public when that agency changes its policy and procedures,” said Ms. Rajoppi.

Holiday Cheer Provided to Union County Seniors and Children

A $25,000 donation from Amazon will go towards hot meals and holiday gifts.

Union County, NJ – On Tuesday, December 21, the Union County Commissioner Board joined New Jersey State Senator Nicholas P. Scutari and United Way of Greater Union County to receive a ceremonial check marking the donation of $25,000 from Amazon. The funds have enabled the purchase of hot meals and gifts for Union County seniors and children.

Also helping to facilitate the project are local five local businesses: The Town Bookstore and The Learning Express in Westfield, the restaurants Il Forno’s in Rahway and Two Tony’s in Linden, and Adrian’s Caterers in Plainfield.

“On behalf of the Commissioner Board I would like to thank Amazon for the funds, and thank Senator Scutari, who was instrumental in coordinating this donation. This partnership with the Senator, Amazon, United Way, and Union County will help ensure that everyone in our community who needs a helping hand can feel included in the festivities of the season, especially children and seniors,” said Commissioner Board Chairman Alexander Mirabella.

“Families, children, and seniors need our support now more than ever. They need to know they are seen, and that the Union County community is there for them. The holiday season is an especially sensitive time, and these new funds will help provide the emotional support that can make a real difference,” said James W. Horne, Jr., President and CEO of United Way of Greater Union County. “We thank Amazon for their contribution, and we thank all of our community partners for collaborating on this initiative.”

“Every act of kindness counts all the more at this time of year.
